The Unlikely Homeschool: The Ugly Truth About a Blog

The Unlikely Homeschool: The Ugly Truth About a Blog

Here is my Comment to the real truths of Homeschooling :D

"Hhahaa! That is my house! Especially the part where there is 5 loads of "clean" clothes taking permanent residence at the foot of my bed! Oh the wonders of raising 5 children for His Glory!....sometimes I just wish I didn't have the perfect family living right next to me with two kids and a clean house all the time...ughh...guess its just a reminder of God's grace-and that I need it! Everyday!"

Learning throughout the Summer

We have been on Holidays.

With that comes; hotdogs, smores, sprinklers, slip-and-slides, ice-cream with waffle cones, burgers, sunscreen, watermelons, picnics, swimming and more!

But the most amazing thing to me...is all the learning we do in the summer.

We can learn from doing:

Dyslexic's learn best by doing things...they need to get their motor skills involved to initiate nuero-pathways and help them to stick!

We can learn from mistakes:

If we can't learn from anything else...we will learn from our mistakes. These are invaluable!
We get better, we grow, we learn; We stand up to life stronger through these untimely problems in life that we call mistakes. Yet, they are what we fear. We try to avoid them and still, they make us the best!

We can learn from exploring:

Curiosity did not kill the cat but, it does help us learn!
This is our most natural instinct that God has given us: An ability to help us learn. It is the drive to see and experience our surroundings. The will to explore! What a marvel things can be to: feel, taste, see, hear and touch especially for the first time. We absorb so much just from exploring and experiencing.

We can learn from reflection and reading:

The two R's that are so important. We need time to think about what we have learned through reflection. This will help us to linger onto memories that spark the knowledge for even longer.

This is so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o important for the Dyslexic learner!

I remember going through some math problems and driving it till we were both in tears. I gave it a rest for a few days and came back to it. He got it! It was nothing that I did. No constant drilling, just time for reflection and it did the trick!

We need time to read. This is so critical. For the Dyslexic learner, even more so. They need extra time for this. They need time for each word to sink in and really understand what it means. They need time to reflect on what they're reading as much as they need time to read.

Happy Learning!
